A treble up the straight at Murray Bridge last Wednesday with Bourne Brett, Aston Olenna and Aston Hayato for David Peckham preceded another three winners at Sunday’s Tara Raceway meeting for the Allendale East trainer.
Kicking off what would ultimately be his fourth treble this year at the local track was Midnight Incy, the pint-sized 22½ kilograms daughter of Fernando Bale x Midnight News lining up from box eight in the Exchange Printers Stake (400 m).
Looking to make it back to back wins, Midnight Incy took the lead off the back before running out a three-quarters of a length winner over Jack Be Quick in 23.52 seconds.
Maximum Refusal, who twice has run near track record times over 600 metres, dropped back to 512 metres on Sunday. But from box one the son of Fernando Bale x Kilkee Flex was always going to be a strong chance in the South Eastern Hotel Mixed Stake.
And when the rails run came on the final turn he was home for all money, eventually holding out Galactic Horizon to win by three-quarters of a length in 30.01 seconds.
Out Of Gas, a litter brother to Midnight Incy, after crossing quickly from the outside box was never in any danger of defeat when running out a 4¾ lengths winner over Lektra Violet in the Produce Store Stake (400 m).
The treble brought up Peckham’s 38th winner at Tara Raceway this year. He’ll now be hoping the good run continues tomorrow in heats of the Murray Bridge Straight Track Cup (350 m).
He looks to hold a strong hand with Sweet On Me, Aston Olenna and Silent Jacko engaged in the first three heats and Aston Hayato and Keen One in the fourth and final heat.
