Local litter’s first win

Galactic Dreamer’s all the way win in Sunday’s Progreyhoundtips.c om Maiden Stake (305 m) was the first for Moorak breeder Robert Chuck’s litter by US sire Flying Stanley out of Galactic Cat (Milldean Panther x Galactic Rumball).

A winner at Mount Gambier, Bendigo, Traralgon, Warrnambool and Horsham, Galactic Cat is a litter sister to former smart chasers Galactic Panther and Faster Bolt.

Also owned and trained by Chuck, Galactic Dreamer defeated Compton Redeemer by 1¾ lengths in 17.74 seconds. The runner-up is another promising newcomer, being by My Redeemer out of Headline. He is raced by Tracie and Karen Price.

Meanwhile, a suggestion has been made by the Grading Review Panel that juvenile 305 metres events are run to complement the maiden 305 metres at Tara Raceway Sunday meetings.

Greyhound Racing SA Racing Manager, Shaun Mathieson, said the introduction of juvenile racing (for greyhounds two years and under) over 305 metres could assist in younger greyhounds’ progression through the grades.

“As things stand at the moment, with 305 metres maidens graded youngest-up, some winners are finding themselves in a grade six over 400 metres at a young age and with little race experience.

“With SA-bred greyhounds able to win six juveniles there should be sufficient time for them to gain further experience before progressing through the grades and distances,” he said.
