Four winners on Sunday at Tara Raceway for David Peckham wrapped up a pretty good week for the Allendale East trainer.
The previous Sunday he led in three winners with Midnight Incy, Maximum Refusal and Out Of Gas. Then at Murray Bridge’s mid-week meeting Aston Olenna and Aston Hayato qualified for Wednesday’s Straight Track Cup final when running first and second in their respective heats.
Involved in the sport for more than 30 years, Peckham will be chasing his biggest success as a trainer when Aston Olenna and Aston Hayato tackle the $7145 Murray Bridge Straight Track Cup final from boxes three and four.
Meanwhile, Sunday’s big day kicked off in the Klaassens Contractors Maiden Stake (400 m) when kennel newcomer Shim Cam opened her winning account at start number six with a 5¾ lengths win over Meandering Merv in a best of day 23.04 seconds.
Owned by Tim Aloisi and Matt Lehman, the beautifully bred Shim Cam is by US sire Bella Infrared out of the Group-placed Bella Shima who won 11 races and more than $50,000 in stakemoney.
Kennelmate Aston Model took time honours over the 512 metres journey when leading all the way in the Metal Worx Mixed Stake and defeating the resilient Rotate by two lengths in 29.64 seconds.
Completing the four winners were Bourne Brett and Zinfandel Tori. This was the second time this year for Peckham who has now trained 42 winners at Tara Raceway in 2021.
He will also hold a strong hand in this Sunday’s Grade 5 Series (400 m) after Out Of Gas, Sunset Firefly and Midnight Incy made their way through to the final.
