Promising local chaser Smart Knocka will face his toughest test to date when he jumps from box two in heat three of tomorrow night’s BGC SA Derby (515 m) at Angle Park.
Trained at Compton by Tracie Price, who also bred the son of Knocka Norris and Who’s Doing What, Smart Knocka was an impressive 29.92 seconds winner at the city track last week.
Short-priced favourite for the heat is Blue Shadows who trialled 29.70 seconds at Angle Park last week after two quick wins at Sandown Park for Anakie trainer Angela Langton.
Price also has Cee Me Turbo engaged in the first heat of the Derby from box six, the red-hot heat including Spring Bridge, a 29.63 seconds 512 metre maiden winner at Tara Raceway in March for Greg Board of Murray Bridge.
Meanwhile, Allendale East trainer David Peckham has a four-dog team – which includes last Sunday Tara Raceway winner Downtown Pixie – engaged at Strathalbyn on Friday.
The win, which came after a spirited battle with My Mandara in the JB Irrigation Stake (400 m), was Downtown Pixie’s third since relocating from Townsville to Peckham’s kennels in July.
By Magic Sprite out of Paige Express, the black bitch is owned at Bribie Island by Bill Ferguson who, in a 50-year involvement, claims he has never had a dog that hasn’t won a race.
And his winning run continued on Tuesday night when litter brother Faringdon won a heat of the Townsville Derby (498 m).
