Tara Raceway regular Craig Grubb, of Mount Gambier, was the winner of the latest Tara Tipsters’ charity-based on-track tipping competition which was run in support of the SA Riding for the Disabled (RDA).

For Grubb, it was his second Tara Tipsters win after he had been successful in November 2023. This time around he found the front in round four and then held the lead until the conclusion of the series (round 19). His highest individual score was 36 points.

RDA representatives will be at Tara Raceway on Sunday, May 25 to receive a donation from the Tara Tipsters following the running of the Riding for the Disabled Grade 6 final (512 m).

Commencing this week, the Tara Tipsters will be throwing their support behind the Mount Gambier Breast Cancer Awareness Group – now in its 25th year.

The awareness group raises funds to support local people on their breast cancer journey. It has also developed a range of different initiatives including Helping Handbags. Valued at $1000, the handbags assist with everyday expenses such as groceries, fuel and pharmacy needs

Awareness group chairperson Jill Gilmore said the group often received feedback or cards from patients thanking them for the vouchers received through the Helping Handbags.

The group also established a lymphoedema service in Mount Gambier to help provide early intervention and local treatment. The service, established in 2019, allows local people with the disease to receive treatment and early intervention.

Other local charities to have been supported by the Mount Gambier Greyhound Racing Club’s Tara Tipsters include the Visually Impaired Club, Four Reasons Why, Ryder Cheshire, Mount Gambier Cancer Support Group, the Community Christmas Lunch and Spare Ya Change 4 Kids.
