Dimora Ashley, bred locally by Bernie Bouchier and raced by his son Kevin, opened her winning account on Sunday for long-time Camperdown trainer Ray Brewer who was racing at Tara Raceway for the first time.
Lining up from box four in the Rocks Tavern Maiden Stake (400 metres), the black bitch quickly found the front before holding out Compton Angel and an unlucky Saint Max to win in 23.70 seconds.
By Aston Dee Bee, Dimora Ashley is out of 12-race Mount Gambier winner Dimora Flash, a daughter of Cosmic Rumble and Stylish Moment.
Brewer also brought over Dimora Cruz, a winner of four races and probably the pick of the litter. But the black dog was slowly away from box eight and while making up plenty of ground to finish second was unable to round up an impressive Saint Ollie in the Carlin & Gazzard MG Stake (400 m).
For Brewer, though, it was a pretty successful day.
“We’ve had the Dimora dogs for about 12 months now and it was good to be able to get over and for Kevin and his family to be able to see them race. Of course it was even better that one of them was able to win.”
Brewer, who currently has nine greyhounds in work, has been involved in the sport for 50 years. He names Just A Chance and Onga’s Regret as two of his better dogs in that time.
