Wind Burn Flash ran right up to her second-placing in a recent Gawler Cup heat (531 m) when winning Mount Gambier’s Border Challenge heat (512 m) at Tara Raceway on Sunday.
Trained at Moorak by Jason Newman, the daughter of Worm Burner and the Group 2-winning Real Flash quickly put herself in the race from box six. And she finished strongly to defeat kennelmate Departure Gate and the front-running Tracie Price-trained Banjo Bert in 29.91 seconds.
Also through to the final is Aston Marlon, trained by David Peckham who had Flash Jackie in the 2019 Border Challenge at Warrnambool.
Owned in Victoria by her breeder Trevor Rhodes, Wind Burn Flash formerly raced in WA where she won three races before finding her way to Newman who makes no secret that he believes her to be one of his up and comers.
Joining Mount Gambier’s foursome in Sunday afternoon’s $5800 Border Challenge final – the first to be run at Tara Raceway – will be Warrnambool representatives Incinerator, Aston Marvel, Max Power and Inga Zach.
