Bernie’s birthday bash complements top day of racing

The Radley families – young and old – descended on Tara Raceway last Sunday.

It’s now 12 months since the Radley families – young and old – had descended on Tara Raceway to take in a race meeting and enjoy a family get together. And they promised to return.

Well, they were back at the Lake Terrace East venue for another family day last Sunday – bigger and better than ever – to celebrate Bernie Radley’s 70th birthday at the almost completed million dollar clubroom upgrade.

“There are 14 Radleys and I’m No. 10,” Bernie said. “Actually, the big crowd here today are all related. All told, the immediate family is made up of something like 150 – with a few more on the way! Hopefully, we’ll be able to get everyone out here next year.”

As is always the case, Edenhope owner-trainer Kerry Hawker made the kids welcome and invited Isabelle, Lara and Hallie to join her for a photograph with Cadillac Ragtop, who brought up her seventh win this year in the Da’Leni Meats Stake (400 metres).

And a few of the youngsters took advantage of the spacious grounds at Tara Raceway and instigated a game of cricket.

It has to be said the Boxing Day meeting at Tara Raceway had been an extremely quiet affair. All that changed last Sunday, though, when the venue was transformed into the “Radley Raceway”.

A good crowd and a top day’s racing made for an ideal finish to 2024 local greyhound racing.
