A winner in his own right

It’s fair to say Brad Frahn of Mypolonga has enjoyed his share of success as an owner with the 10 Fine Gentlemen Syndicate which races greyhounds with Tony Hinrichsen of Langhorne Creek.

And Hinrichsen was back at Tara Raceway last Thursday after having attended the SA Greyhound of the Year awards night several nights earlier at Angle Park where he received a special award.

This was a Special Achievement Award he received in recognition of his greyhound Filthy Phantom’s amazing race record of 336 starts for 38 wins and 122 minor placings in a racing career that commenced at Strathalbyn on December 22, 2017.

The son of Lochinvar Marlow and Ruby Swift will turn seven next month and is showing no signs of slowing down. Actually, he’s set to race at Gawler on March 8 in a Masters event over 400 metres.

Meanwhile, back at Tara Raceway last week, Frahn, from an ownership point of view, had been flying solo with the Hinrichsen-trained Out Of Rope – chasing her first win at start number seven following four minor placings.

Drawn in box eight in the Gordon Refrigeration Maiden Stake (305 m), it didn’t take Out Of Rope long to find the front and from then on she was much too good. On the line she had 3½ lengths to spare over Cadillac Burns in a time of 18.11 seconds.

And as Hinrichsen later pointed out, this had been Frahn’s first individual winner.

“Brad was involved with Out Of Rope’s mother, Roped In, who was certainly nicely bred, being by Oaks Road out of Nitro Looper.

“But she never really went on with it and ultimately found her way to Wangaratta as a brood bitch. In return Brad ended up with two pups from her first litter which was by Talk’s Cheap. I then reared them.

“I reckon he’ll be pretty happy with today’s result.”
