Captain Larry, the greyhound who kicked off his career with a win over 400 metres at Mount Gambier in October 2021 for Allendale East trainer David Peckham, has the Ladbrokes Golden Easter Egg at Wentworth Park in his sights.

This follows the brindle dog’s recent unlucky fourth in the Australian Cup final at The Meadows for the Nineofus Syndicate – of which Peckham is a member – and current trainer Brendan Pursell of Lara.

For the Ross Schurgott-managed syndicate, their share of Captain Larry’s $21,500 fourth prize money amounted to the group’s biggest pay day.

“We’re certainly very proud of him,” Schurgott said. “And now the trainer is looking to trial Captain Larry at Wentworth Park with a view to chasing another big race – next month’s Golden Easter Egg over 520 metres.

“Brendan’s certainly no stranger to big race success at Wentworth Park with McInerney winning last year’s Million Dollar Chase.”

And with six racing greyhounds, 11 pups and two brood bitches, the Nineofus Syndicate continues to look to the future.
