Wrapping up the Tara Tipsters Stake

The Mount Gambier Breast Cancer Awareness Group Tara Tipsters Stake presentation at Tara Raceway last Sunday.

Ararat father and son team, Doug and Paul Hammerstein, was back at Tara Raceway last Sunday and successful in the Mount Gambier Breast Cancer Awareness Group Tara Tipsters Stake (512 metres) with former NSW greyhound Wraps.

Having his first start at Tara Raceway, the son of Feral Franky and Absolute Stella found the front down the back straight and was never headed from then on when running out a five length winner over Obliterated in 30.07 seconds.

In the race prior, the Icon Signs Stake (400 m), kennelmate Is He Happy had scored a three-quarter length win over Yvonne’s Pick in 23.35 seconds.

For the Hammerstein boys Sunday’s wins were their first at the local track since back in April when they had been successful with Imposter and Is He Happy.

Representing the Mount Gambier Breast Cancer Awareness Group last Sunday were Jill Gilmore and Loraine Baron who were presented with a donation from the Mount Gambier Greyhound Racing Club Tara Tipsters at the conclusion of the race.

And the Breast Cancer Awareness Group representatives had been suitably impressed by the manner in which the race and subsequent presentation had been handled. Also impressing the visitors had been the recently-renovated club upgrade.

The winning trainer received a hand-crafted leather collar and lead, which had been kindly donated by Andrew Earl, a member of the Tara Tipsters.

Millicent trainer Dave Green received a quick return on his investment when Hyphenate was successful in the Williams Crane Hire Maiden/One Win Stake (400 m).

By Razor’s Edge out of Grandana Quality, the brindle bitch led all the way from box two when defeating Senior Citizen by 1¾ lengths in 23.54 seconds.

“I picked her up for $500 from Geoff Collins after she had run two third placings here at Tara Raceway,” Green said. “But it looks like my daughters Kaia and Hadlie may have staked a claim for ownership given their excitement after the win on Sunday.”

In the following race, the Todd’s Photographics Maiden Stake (305 m), Collins and his partner, Rosalyn Hume, were successful with Carpark Babe, a daughter of Sennachie and Paua Of Chloe.

Only fairly away from box four, the black bitch took over the running from Fabulous Fleur turning for home before running out a 1¾ length winner in 17.90 seconds.

And later in the day, in the Carlin & Gazzard Stake (305 m), Hume and Collins’ Super Seabird led all the way from box seven when defeating Come On Kilkenny by a length in 17.42 seconds.

Mortlake trainer Peter Franklin was back among the winners with Ringer’s Girl in the Klaassens Contractors Mixed Stake (600 m).

Away well from box one, Ringer’s Girl, a daughter of Aston Rupee and Two Phones, led the way early before Blue To Burn took up the running and looked to have the race stitched up.

But in the run home it was Ringer’s Girl who finished the stronger when defeating Blue To Burn by a half-length in 35.37 seconds.

Cudgee trainer Gary Hunt was also back among the winners in the Greg Martlew Autos Stake (400 m) with Maybe Rain who led all the way from box five when defeating Patrice Lass by 3½ lengths in 23.17 seconds. By Fabregas out of Sixteen Pegs, the black bitch has now won eight races.

And Kerry Hawker and Captain Abbott kennelmates Cadillac Ragtop and Mister Cadillac fought out the finish of the Gordon Refrigeration Open Stake (400 m) with only a neck separating the pair on the line in a quick 22.91 seconds.
