Racing kicked off in record-breaking fashion at Tara Raceway on Sunday when Giant’s Flash lowered his own 600 metre track record for Compton trainer Tracie Price.
Drawn in box two in the Commercial Hotel Mixed Stake, Giant’s Flash led all the way when defeating Paul Hammerstein’s Limiting by 2½ lengths with a further 4¾ lengths back to Peter Franklin’s Moonlight Kiss.
It’s been an incredible record-breaking run at the Mount Gambier greyhound track this year for the son of Banjo Boy and Navada Flame.
On January 20 he lowered Rockoon’s 512 metre record of 29.28 seconds to 29. 19 seconds. On July 24 he equalled his record which then stood until August 28 when Victa Grosso ran 29.18 seconds.
And it was on April 10 that he lowered Pirate’s Curse’s 600 metre record of 34.79 seconds to 34.69 seconds prior to Sunday’s record-breaking run of 34.58 seconds.
Meanwhile, the placement of Greyhound Racing SA’s Tim Stoeckel’s Mount Gambier Tara Tipsters video on Facebook has been well received.
Stoeckel featured Kevin “KD” Douglas, one of the founding Tara Tipsters which has now grown to more than 20 contestants who donate to a local charity in the twice-weekly competition.
Others featuring on the video include Mount Gambier Greyhound Racing Club secretary Ruth Lewis, committee member Jason Newman – still trying to win the competition – and recipients Maree Thompson (Sunset Community Kitchen) and Shauna Wood (Salvation Army).
But KD sums it up best.
“We started the Tara Tipsters to combine our love of greyhound racing and a passion for supporting the underprivileged people of Mount Gambier.
“The Tara Tipsters program has become enjoyably competitive for those involved and, more importantly, is making a real difference for local charities.”
