Under Arrest lands first distance win

Under Arrest ran the quickest 732 metre time of the year at Tara Raceway last Sunday when winning the Ary Sports Bar & Bistro Stake.

Under Arrest, a son of US sire Superior Panama and former champion stayer Sweet It Is – 23 wins and $945,000 in prize money – recorded his first distance win when making his debut at Tara Raceway last Sunday.

Trained at Heathcote by 28-year-old Jordan Formosa, the black dog was always on the pace from box eight before taking up the running off the back. He then went on to a 3½ length win over Mick’s Kimmy in 43.43 seconds – the fastest time run at Tara Raceway this year.

But it was purely by chance that Under Arrest – according to Formosa a beautiful dog and built to stay – found himself in Mount Gambier on Sunday.

“Recently I had been talking to Calum Blake at Bendigo and happened to mention to him that I had been looking for a suitable distance race for the dog,” Formosa said.

“He said that Mount Gambier often runs distance races on a Sunday and that they were heading over on April 30 with a few dogs. If interested, they would take Under Arrest over for me if there was a distance race on the card.

“Watching the race from home I was surprised when he settled much closer to the lead than I thought he would. Then it was going to be a matter of how he would run out the 732 metre journey.”

Formosa, who has 10 greyhounds in work, said it was probably fair to say that he had been born and bred into greyhound racing – assisting his father Jason from a very young age.

And Calum and Jaz Blake also enjoyed a good day when Artificial Blue scored a big win in the Todd’s Photographics Mixed Stake (400 m).
