Trainer’s couple of big days

Thursday, October 25, 2018

Compton trainer Tracie Price, ostensibly at Gawler on Tuesday to trial his star youngster Smart Knocka in readiness for next week’s Gawler Gold Cup heats (531 m), covered expenses when Banjo Lass and Blazing Moment were successful over 400 metres and 531 metres respectively.

Knocka’s Moment defeats Mongolian Bay at Tara Raceway on Wednesday.

Having his first run at the track, Blazing Moment, reported to have trialled well at Sandown Park last week, landed some good bets when running down Charlie’s Chance to win the Gawler Dry Cleaners Stake.

Away fairly from box eight, Blazing Moment was third rounding the first turn but down the back was giving Charlie’s Chance a huge lead before finishing well to score by a head.

Price said Smart Knocka, recent Adelaide Cup Consolation winner, had trialled well and will now contest a $2500 heat next Tuesday and hopefully qualify for the following Sunday night’s $36,000 final.

Big Rough returns to the winner’s list at Tara Raceway on Wednesday when defeating Our Bro Pedro, Last Princess (3) and Lone Star.

The leading trainer then backed up the following day at Tara Raceway’s time-graded meeting with a treble – Cee Me Holly an easy winner in the Winmore Greyhound Kennels Maiden Stake (512 m) in 30.28 seconds, Knocka’s Moment a 23.73 seconds Stake (400 m) winner and Roxy’s Daisy making it two wins in succession when successful in the Gambier Vets Stake (400 m).

And Portland trainer Brian Weis landed a running double when Teacup Toni scored a strong win in the Rock’s Retreat Stake (512 m) in 30.33 seconds while Big Rough won his first race in three months after quickly finding the front and despite running wide in the home straight hanging on to defeat Our Bro Pedro in 30.35 seconds.
