It was a big day at Tara Raceway last Thursday for former champion SA sprinter Worm Burner who sired four winners – Caribbean Queen, Compton Peggy, Bourne Blue and I’m A Burner – on the 12-race card.
Owned by Cameron and Yvonne Butcher of Meningie, Worm Burner won 48 races and more than $380,000 in an 83-start career that was highlighted by a win in the 2016 Group 1 National Sprint Championship at Angle Park.
By Oaks Road x Little Looper, he is now starting to make his mark at stud with progeny such as Mister Harlewood, Coorong Lucy, Zulu Zulu, Maddison Kaye and Sir Truculent.
Caribbean Queen’s virtual all the way win in the Greg Martlew Autos Maiden Stake (400 metres) gave Tahara owner-trainer Robert Proctor his first win at Tara Raceway in almost 12 months when Kid Winslow had been successful.
The well-bred Caribbean Queen is out of Molly Dobbs – a litter sister to Jack Walker who won 24 races and close to $90,000 – and herself a winner of 13 races and $28,000 in stakemoney.
“She’s been in my kennels for only a month or so and I thought her three lengths win in 23.61 seconds was a fair effort,” said Proctor, back in the game this time around for 20 years and currently working six greyhounds.
