The case of the disappearing dentures

It seemed the all-but-retired 97-start veteran chaser United Lass had the run of owner-trainer John Burow’s Penshurst home.

Well, as Burow tells it, until recently anyway.

John Burow, with teeth intact, pictured three years ago at Tara Raceway with United Lass.

“After her run at Tara Raceway at the end of last month I decided that it was probably time to retire her. So with the exception of a couple of rooms she then virtually went wherever she pleased in the house,” he said.

“I have to say, everything was going along fine until the other morning. That’s when I got up and discovered that my false teeth were missing.”

And, according to Burow, it didn’t take long to work out what had happened to the disappearing dentures.

“Every day I had been giving her a couple of dog biscuits,” he said. “She would eat one and take the other one outside and bury it. I’m assuming the dentures are buried somewhere in the backyard.

“Next door neighbour Brendan Casey came over and we hunted high and low but so far have been unable to find the dentures. All we found were a couple of dog biscuits!”

Burow has since confirmed that United Lass had now been banished to the backyard.
