The Mount Gambier Greyhound Racing Club’s recent appointment of the personable Fabio Cuervo as part of its kennel house race day and cleaning team has been well received by participants.
Fabio and his partner Sandra Soto had arrived in Melbourne from Colombia four years ago prior to relocating to Mount Gambier only last month.
And there had been an association with greyhound racing in Victoria as the pair was engaged in contract cleaning at The Meadows track on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
“However, in order to comply with permanent residential requirements in Australia we needed to move to a regional area of South Australia,” Fabio said.
As it turned out, the CEO at The Meadows is Scott Wuchatsch, formerly the Strategic Projects Manager at Greyhound Racing SA (GRSA). He suggested to the couple that Mount Gambier could be an ideal place to settle.
And because he had enjoyed a long association with the Mount Gambier club through his role at GRSA, he said he would contact the club to see if there were any openings in relation to employment.
Sandra, who works with the elderly, also lent a hand in the canteen at last Thursday’s meeting. “The Mount Gambier people are so nice,” she said.
And from Fabio: “Many thanks for having us here at the Mount Gambier greyhounds.”
