As the Foodbank Tara Tipster competition moves into its second month it goes without saying that some of the tipsters are performing better than others. Some have managed to fight back, others continue to languish at the bottom of the list.
It has to be said, local sporting identity Kevin “KD” Douglas had been copping his fair share of ridicule after some indifferent tipping performances at Tara Raceway’s first 10 meetings of the year.
But he bounced back at Sunday’s 10-race meeting, ending the day with a record 27 points – eight wins, a second and a third. The previous record was 26, held by Jude “One-Hit-Wonder” Tait.
Thirteen race day regulars comprise the Tara Tipsters, all contributing a few dollars each week in a bid to claim bragging rights.
The big winners, though, will be Mount Gambier’s Foodbank, supporting the Limestone Coast community for more than 15 years and currently supplying more than 130 local charities and schools in the region with food relief.
Through the Mount Gambier Greyhound Racing Club, the Tara Tipsters will donate the proceeds of the tipping competition to Foodbank representatives in December at a Tara Raceway meeting which will feature the running of a Foodbank Feature.
