Mount Gambier’s meeting at Tara Raceway tomorrow (Sunday, February 14) has been cancelled due to the closure of the SA border with Victoria last night.
Greyhound Racing SA Racing Manager, Shaun Mathieson, said the significant number of Victorian trainers with greyhounds engaged at the meeting now unable to attend due to the border restriction had severely affected the size of the fields for the eight-race meeting.
“Also, the Mount Gambier Greyhound Racing Club’s contracted Warrnambool-based veterinary surgeon was unable to attend and due to the short notice there was insufficient time to source another veterinary surgeon,” he said.
The next scheduled meeting for Mount Gambier is a time-graded meeting on Thursday (February 18) with nominations closing at 9 a.m. (SA time) on Monday (February 15).
“Hopefully, the border restrictions will have ended by Thursday, however we will monitor the situation and update industry participants if there are any changes,” Mathieson said.
The 2020 Ian Badger Trainer of the Year and 2020 Mount Gambier Greyhound of the Year presentations, which were to have taken place tomorrow, will now be rescheduled.
Tuesday’s greyhound health and fitness checks at Tara Raceway have also been cancelled due to Craig Finlayson unable to attend because of the border restriction.
