When it comes to national racing locations, it’s probably not all that surprising that Mount Gambier is one of the most difficult to access in a convenient and affordable manner and that the cost implications are significant.
As such, Tabcorp has approached Greyhound Racing SA and is seeking its support to undertake a trial of remote race calling of races from Mount Gambier.
GRSA Chief Executive Officer Matt Corby said Tabcorp had been working on a remote race caller strategy that was of acceptable quality and one in which the viewer would not detect any difference.
“It is Tabcorp’s intention to operate a hybrid meeting on Thursday, September 26 wherein they will test the remote system but also have a race caller in place at Tara Raceway,” he said.
“Subject to the outcome of that trial, Tabcorp would then be looking to go to a full remote situation from the following Sunday meeting on September 29.”
