Local trainer continues to go the distance

Redshift Uniform winning the Klaassens Contractors Mixed Stake (732 m) at Tara Raceway on Sunday.

They take a bit of finding, but as far as owners and trainers are concerned a handy staying greyhound is certainly the way to go.

After all, they generally go around in races comprising the least number of runners with those same races paying the most prize money on the program.

And Moorak trainer Jason Newman’s good run with distance dogs at Tara Raceway continues, currently with Redshift Uniform who brought up her fifth 732 metre win at the track at Sunday’s meeting.

Contesting the four-dog Klaassens Contractors Mixed Stake, the Lena Dureikina-owned red brindle bitch took up the running down the back straight before defeating Black Jester by four lengths in 43.58 seconds.

By Barcia Bale out of Taylor Made Star, a winner of eight races and $28,000 in prize money, Redshift Uniform’s overall record over the distance at Tara Raceway is now five wins and two seconds from seven starts.

A couple of races later the Newman-trained stayer Wind Burn Flash returned to the track for the first time since mid-July when contesting the Commercial Hotel Stake (400 m).

As it turned out, Wind Burn Flash struck the Elysia Bartholomew-trained Devilish Child in rare form. The daughter of Blue Moon Rising and Galactic Destiny led all the way for a five length win over Cadillac Star in a quick 22.80 seconds.

To be expected, Wind Burn Flash finished down the line. But Newman had been happy with effort.

“Look, it’s a long road back for sure and I’ll be taking things slowly with her. However, she appears to have pulled up pretty well.”

Raced by the Trevor Rhodes managed Big Mumma’s Syndicate, the daughter of Worm Burner and Real Flash commenced her racing career in WA where she hadn’t run over any further than 490 metres.

By the time Wind Burn Flash had gone for a break in July she had won nine races this year over 732 metres at Tara Raceway. She had also taken what looked to be an unbeatable lead in the Mount Gambier Greyhound of the Year award.

Chipping away with a plethora of second placings and a recent win, though, has been Nero Valentino, owned and trained at Edenhope by Kerry Hawker.

In fact, the 103-start veteran, after finishing second to the Kevin Mugavin owned and trained Classic Moment in the Cadillac Racing Mixed Stake (512 m), is now seven points clear of Wind Burn Flash in the GOTY.

The long-running award has a history of going down to the wire. This year may be no different.

Meanwhile, leading trainer Tracie Price, of Compton, produced another smart type in Wild Banker who led all the way in the Exchange Printers Maiden/One Win Stake (400 m) when defeating litter sister Wild Milly by 6½ lengths in 23.23 seconds.

US sire Need My Moneynow produced his first Tara Raceway winner on Sunday when Wild Banker was successful for local trainer Tracie Price.

With Price since breaking-in, the pair was bred and is owned by NSW-based George Kairouz. By US sire Need My Moneynow, the dam is Wild Marilyn, a daughter of Go Wild Teddy and Hillary – and a winner of 16 races at Angle Park, Gawler and Murray Bridge.

By No More Loving out of Need A Date, Need My Moneynow was twice a member of the All American team and a track record holder for more than four years at Gulf Greyhound Park.

The white and black dog, who has 15 litters in Australia, won three feature races in 2015-2016 and at one stage boasted a winning streak of 13 at Gulf Greyhound Park.

Wild Banker was the first leg of a treble for Price – his 15th this year at Tara Raceway. Later, Ebby Justice was an impressive winner over 600 metres in the Carlin & Gazzard Mixed Stake when defeating Iverson by 2¼ lengths in 35.30 seconds.

And Compton Redeemer returned to the winner’s circle at Tara Raceway for the first time since April when taking the lead down the back in the Trackside Pet Meats Pick 6 Stake (512 m) before running out a 4¾ length winner over Rough Girl Skye in 29.89 seconds.
