Local hopes draw well in Country Cup final

Hot Sambuca and Dyna Carnie, the Mount Gambier Greyhound Racing Club’s representatives in Friday night’s SA TAB Country Cup (515 metres) at Angle Park, have both drawn well in the $4500-to-the-winner final.

Hot Sambuca won his way through to the final after defeating Angelo’s Entity by three lengths in 29.77 seconds in the first heat at Tara Raceway over 512 metres on September 24. And Dyna Carnie defeated Shadow Burner by three lengths in a best of day 29.52 seconds in the other heat.

Speaking yesterday, Gifford Hill trainer Tony Rasmussen, who won the 2017 Country Cup with Stick Figure, said he was happy with Hot Sambuca’s box seven draw and with the way he trialled at Angle Park last week.

“Even though he hasn’t won from box seven I believe he’ll be suited out wide,” he said. “He hasn’t raced since his Mount Gambier win but he went super in his trial and I couldn’t be happier with the way he’s gone since then.”

Dyna Carnie also hasn’t raced since his all the way heat win, Allendale East trainer David Peckham delighted after his Tara Raceway 400 metres record holder drew box one in the final.

“I was hoping he would draw in close so I believe he get his chance in what’s a pretty good race.

“He’s been kept up to the mark here at Allendale East since his heat win. If he was going to have another run before the final it probably needed to be at Angle Park but I wasn’t really keen on making an extra trip to Adelaide given he’s not a great traveller at the best of times.”

Peckham, who has a share in the Ben Rawlings trained Murray Bridge replacement Call Me Billy in the final, also has the in-form Angelo’s Entity jumping from box seven in the second race, a grade six over 515 metres.

Also at Angle Park on Friday night is Compton trainer Tracie Price who has Black Spring, Elle Limes and Falcon Heavy – all winners at Tara Raceway last week – engaged.

Black Spring has drawn box one in a 600 metres event. Elle Limes, who will clash with Angelo’s Entity, also has drawn box one while Falcon Heavy has the five in another 515 metres grade six event.
