Last drinks for bar manager

Dawn Kay has stepped down after 17 years as Tara Raceway bar manager.

Dawn Kay, the Mount Gambier Greyhound Racing Club’s long-time bar manager, has tendered her resignation due to her husband David’s on-going health issues.

Bar manager for the past 17 years at Tara Raceway, Kay said she had regarded all at the club as part of her family.

“I would like to thank club manager Barry Shepheard and the many committees that I’ve worked with over the years. Together we had our ups and downs but it’s always been a great club. I’m certainly going to miss everyone terribly.”

Kay said she wished the club well with its future plans. Already the canteen has undergone considerable renovation while further extensive work in the complex is expected to commence in the next financial year.

The Kay family has had a long involvement at Tara Raceway. David Kay was the MGGRC secretary from 2007 to 2009 and also the photo finish operator while his father George was awarded life membership in 1995.

Meanwhile, with border restrictions still in place, racing will continue on Thursday afternoons with canteen and bar facilities. However, there are currently no TAB facilities on track. Account holders can place bets via phone, laptop, etc. with TAB and other corporate bookmakers.
