Kerry witnesses Cadillac Prince’s win first-hand

John and Kerry Hawker with Cadillac Prince after his win at Tara Raceway.

Cadillac Prince’s win in last Thursday’s Rock’s Tavern Maiden/Grade 6 Stake (400 metres) at Tara Raceway was the February 2019 blue dog’s second in his short career.

His first win came last month at Warrnambool where he was successful for Edenhope trainer Cap Abbott. Needless to say, Moorak owner Kerry Hawker couldn’t be on track to witness the win. In fact, with Abbott at the time confined to Victoria and Hawker to SA she wondered just when she might get to see Cadillac Prince first-hand.

As luck would have it, soon after Abbott was granted a permit to race in Mount Gambier and as such was pretty quick to get the Prince over the border and back to Tara Raceway.

Hawker, the face of Trackside Meats on Jubilee Highway West, has a special affinity with the dog, purchasing him from Victoria when a four-month-old pup.

“I had been looking for a pup to purchase and had Cap on the lookout for me. He came up with pups advertised from a litter by Unlawful Entry out of Proud Fantasy, a winner of only three 425 metres races at Bendigo but a litter sister to the more than handy Bill’s Back who won 38 races and $85,000 in stakemoney,” she said.

“I settled on a dog (Cadillac Prince) while Cap chose a bitch for himself which now races as Another Pick and had no luck in the same race as her brother last week.

“This has been a real hands-on exercise for us as we broke the pair in ourselves at the Mount Gambier track.”

Cadillac Prince will now step up to 512 metres in Thursday’s Trackside Meats Stake at Tara Raceway while Another Pick will attempt to open his winning account in the Winmore Greyhounds Kennels Stake (400 m).
