For the second Sunday in a row, it was a case of Compton kennelmates Urana Meat Loaf and Simba going over the line with little separating the Tracie Price trained pair – first in a heat and then the final of a feature grade five feature over 400 metres.
In fact, on heat day it was a really tight three-way go, Urana Meat Loaf holding on to defeat fast finishers Simba and Shim Cam in a best of day 23.03 seconds.
Sunday’s Rock’s Tavern final resulted in an even keener finish, Simba turning the tables on the previous week’s winner when getting up by a nose in 23.21 seconds.
The winner is by US sire SE Tali Sundance, who in a two-year period recorded 53 wins from 106 starts at Southland, regarded as one of America’s best tracks.
Bred by George Kairouz of Colebee, NSW, Simba – a litter brother to Mr. America who has won 10 races and $30,000 in stakemoney – is out of Motel Girl who in November last year whelped a second litter to SE Tali Sundance.
Simba was switched to Price’s kennels from Adelaide in July after it was decided he would be better suited to racing at Mount Gambier.
“My wife Karen and I recently purchased him from previous owner, Rugby League legend Terry Hill. And we were pretty happy with his win in the grade five final, especially considering that he was the only grade six runner in the race,” he said.
Meanwhile, Price said 13-race winner Golly Gumdrops last week whelped a litter of eight to Mepunga Blazer.
Earlier this year the Price-trained Golly Gumdrops won the Michelle Niele Memorial Dual Distance Challenge (512 m, 600 m) at Tara Raceway.
By Worm Burner, she is out of Psychotic Gold, a winner of 18 races over 731 metres at Angle Park.
