Greyhound Racing SA (GRSA) has requested information from the Mount Gambier Greyhound Racing Club (MGGRC) in regard to running an extra race meeting at Tara Raceway.
“A Saturday morning meeting would complement the weekly Thursday and Sunday meetings,” said GRSA Racing Manager Shaun Mathieson. “But the extra meeting could range from a fortnightly option to a monthly or bi-monthly or maybe not at all, depending on response.
“Basically, we’re seeking feedback from the MGGRC, the people who work at the meetings and also from participating trainers,”
Mathieson said GRSA was endeavouring to ascertain committee and club confidence in running an extra meeting in the Saturday morning timeslot which would commence at around 8.30.
“We would like to confirm the staffing capacity required to accommodate another meeting as well as making sure stewards, kennel staff, track staff, veterinary surgeon, canteen staff, etc. are able to manage.
“In addition, we are also keen to hear whether Victorian trainers, who currently regularly support Mount Gambier meetings, would support an extra meeting on a Saturday morning.”
MGGRC president, Noel Perry, said Victorian-based trainer Kerry Hawker had conducted a straw poll at Tara Raceway’s race meeting last Thursday with participants overwhelmingly in favour of giving an extra meeting a go.
