Good run continues for mother and son team

Lorraine Goodwin with Energy To Burn and members of the Smith and Cook families from Riverston in NSW.

As far as 2025 had been concerned, Hamilton mother and son training team, Lorraine and Kyle Goodwin, did pretty well at Tara Raceway with 81 winners and 160 minor placegetters.

And they enjoyed a good day at last Thursday’s Mount Gambier Greyhound Racing Club’s third meeting of 2026 when Kyle was successful with Cheques To Burn and Starlight Jewel while Lorraine won with Energy To Burn.

Cheques To Burn, a daughter of Beast Unleashed and Storm To Burn, never looked like being beaten in the Todd’s Photographics TG5+W Stake (305 metres) when leading all the way from box seven for a six length win in 17.66 seconds.

A couple of races later and Kyle was back with $10 chance Starlight Jewel for the Greg Martlew Autos TG5+W Stake (400 m).

This was another all the way win, the daughter of Fernando Bale and Elusive Jewel too good by four lengths for the favourite Red To Burn, who incidentally is trained by Lorraine.

But mum made amends in the Cadillac Racing TG5+W Stake (305 m) with Energy To Burn, a litter brother to earlier winner Cheques To Burn, finishing too strongly for Cadillac Landau for a length win in 17.68 seconds.

Joining in for an after-race photo opportunity with Lorraine and Energy To Burn were members of the Smith and Cook families, from Riverston in NSW. Currently holidaying in Mount Gambier, they were really impressed with Tara Raceway and its clubroom facilities.
