George Regis’s win at Tara Raceway last Sunday not only continued local couple Heather and Noel Perry’s good run on the track but also saw the black and white dog join a select group of greyhounds to have won over the short course in under 23 seconds this year.
George Regis, a son of Spud Regis and Sky Fly High, brought up his third win since joining Noel Perry’s kennels in June when leading all the way in the Greg Martlew Autos Mixed Stake (400 metres).
In defeating Blazing Moment by three-quarters of a length in 22.97 seconds, George Regis became one of only seven greyhounds this year to break the 23-second barrier, Wise Stella the quickest with a run of 22.89 seconds on July 13.
Other quick runs have been recorded by Hopalong 22.93; Azumi Ryder 22.95; Hopalong 22.96; Oh No Beta 22.97; Cryer’s Jed (a full brother to current 22.78 record holder Cryer’s Ricky) and Dynamite Danger 22.99.
Meanwhile, George Regis will step up in grade from box two on Sunday when taking on a smart field of short-coursers in the Gordon Refrigeration Mixed Stake (400 m).
And Rockoon and Smart Knocka, also smart winners at Tara Raceway last Sunday, will be part of a big Tracie Price team racing at Angle Park tonight.
