The locally-based Bouchier family was out in force at Tara Raceway last Sunday to watch Dimora Bluey make his racing debut in the Todd’s Photographics Maiden Stake (305 metres).
Bred, reared and raced by Kevin Bouchier, and trained at Allendale East by David Peckham, the blue son of Tommy Shelby and Dimora Flash certainly didn’t let the team down. Leading all the way, he also recorded an impressive maiden time of 17.67 seconds when defeating Drill Baby by 3½ lengths.
Whelped in February 2023, this is Dimora Flash’s second litter. Her first, by Aston Dee Bee, includes Dimora Cruz who has raced on 103 occasions for 17 wins, 17 seconds, 17 thirds and $63,000 in prize money.
With the exception of two runs, Dimora Flash, a daughter of Cosmic Rumble and Stylish Moment, did all her racing for Tracie Price at Tara Raceway where she went around on 63 occasions for 12 wins, 27 minor placings and $13,000 in prize money.
And it’s been a case of the pedigree finding its way back to Allendale East through Stylish Moment, winner of the inaugural Winter Classic at Tara Raceway in 2014. By Spring Gun, she was out of Nicky’s Moment and bred by Peckham.
Later in the day, as the field was being boxed for the Icon Signs Stake (305 m), the race caller was spot on when suggesting that the race wouldn’t take long to run.
As it turned out, race favourite Super Serene was only a half-length outside the 305 metre track record of 17.28 seconds – established over a 15 month period in 2022-2023 and held jointly by Lektra Gal, Urana Meat Loaf and Hello Keen.
Raced by Geoff Collins of Wattle Flat, and trained by his partner Rosalyn Hume, Super Serene led all the way from box four in the grade six event and defeated Sherry Cherry by 4¼ lengths in 17.33 seconds.
Collins had made the 10-hour round trip to Mount Gambier and back only 10 days earlier after the daughter of Shima Shine and Super C Azelle had been required to run a satisfactory trial prior to racing again due to being off the scene since last October.
“I thought she might have been better suited to a track with the finish on lure,” Collins said. “So after winning her maiden at Horsham over 410 metres in a quick 23.22 seconds I decided to send her up to Grafton to race.
“She did win three races in succession up there but things didn’t really work out so she came back. And finally she was able to get back on the race track and find winning form again last Sunday.”
Super C Azelle, an All American, was brought by Collins to Australia where she has whelped two litters – the second 12 months younger and by Razor’s Edge.
