Mount Gambier Cup winning trainer Deb Coleman, who relocated to Victoria eight years ago and established a successful training operation with partner Rob Camilleri, died suddenly this week at the age of 61.
For Coleman, as far as the Mount Gambier Cup was concerned, it had been a case of third time lucky after Zipping Zarbo was successful in the 2021 event over 512 metres.
Two years prior Coleman and Camilleri’s odds-on Mount Gambier Cup favourite Slingshot Hammer finished a desperately close second behind local greyhound Galactic Athena.
Then, the following year’s winner, Sunset Milo, was transferred from their Lara kennels prior to the cup to Adelaide owner Tim Aloisi in order to overcome border restrictions.
In the 2024 Mount Gambier Cup, Uriel Bale, handled by Coleman’s son Ricky, ran a still-standing track record of 29.15 seconds when winning a heat.
Vale – Deb Coleman.
