Long-time trainer Connie Miller, of Allendale East, has won a stack of races and awards over the years, not the least being the 1983-84 Greyhound of the Year with Versuveus who defeated Tara Topar by two points.
And a stirring win by the Miller-trained Chilly Kiss in last Sunday’s Williams Crane Hire Mixed Stake (512 m) now has the daughter of Spring Gun and Chilly Babe enjoying a 6½ point lead in this year’s Greyhound of the Year over Oh No Beta, trained by Nicole Stanley who is chasing her third successive GOTY win after Old Jock and Fiorelli Rose.
Since winning a 512 metre feature grade five at odds of $34 in February, Chilly Kiss hasn’t looked back, winning a further five races at Tara Raceway over 400 metres, 512 metres and The Tankman over 600 metres at cup time.
Miller will now be hoping the brindle bitch can extend her GOTY lead when she jumps from box eight against a smart field in Sunday’s winningformula.net.au Mixed Stake (512 m) while Oh No Beta needs to win the Gordon Refrigeration Stake (400 m) to keep in touch.
