Papers of the very first greyhound Rod Noden owned outright back in 1978 make for interesting viewing. The greyhound in question was So Tempting, a blue daughter of Shan’s Tempest and Lady Diro.
This was back in the early days of SA greyhound racing when the controlling body was known as the South Australian Dog Racing Control Board and operated out of Aston House in Leigh Street, Adelaide.
The Greyhound Registration certificate had been signed by the Control Board’s secretary Phil McCarron and is a far cry from today’s registration procedure.
The South Australian Dog Racing Control Board – not altogether a great title – later became the South Australian Greyhound Racing Control Board.
So Tempting won on most SA tracks although one of her best efforts was a third placing in the West End Cup at Angle Park. All told, she won 23 races and ran many placings.
Noden recalls that he used to cook So Tempting a roo stew most Friday nights and leave it to cool down while he shot down to the local footy club for a couple of ales.
“One night I came home and found my two sisters and their friends had demolished the stew. You can imagine the look on their faces when I told them they had just eaten the dog stew!”
