An appreciative group from the Riding for the Disabled Mount Gambier was on course at Tara Raceway last Sunday to receive a donation from the Tara Tipsters who have now been supporting local charities by way of their tipping competition at Tara Raceway for the past five years.
Coach Robyn Reiter was accompanied at Sunday’s meeting by Sue McGlone, Hallie Martin and Olivia Climas. She said RDA Mount Gambier provided a positive, supportive and inclusive environment to anyone from the age of three and up.
A presentation was made to the group following the running of the Tara Tipsters Riding for the Disabled Grade 6 final (512 metres).
A treeless saddle, often lighter and allowing the rider to feel the horse’s movement more closely than a traditional saddle, will now be purchased by RDA Mount Gambier with the Tara Tipsters donation.
The race itself turned out to be a competitive affair. Moscow Chick and Vixen Force matched motors for much of the journey with the former finishing the stronger in the run home when winning by a length in 30.12 seconds.
By Fernando Bale out of Mallee Dreamer, the 23½ kilogram Moscow Chick is owned by Group 1 winning trainer Damien Smith of Murray Bridge and his father Ross and trained by the latter at Reynella.
The winner is a litter sister to Time To Fire, recently a winner at Wentworth Park and the Gardens in NSW for Smith junior.
He also continued his recent winning run at Tara Raceway when Nangar Express scored an impressive win over Compton Copy in the Winning Post Supplies Mixed Stake (400 m) by three lengths in 22.94 seconds.
A son of Aston Dee Bee and Nangar Silk, the black dog is raced by Smith in partnership with Murray Bridge-based Terry Daly – at the track on Sunday – and Mount Gambier’s club manager Tim Lewis.
At Tara Raceway the previous week, Smith had landed a treble with Wilpena, Jabuk and Masani Girl.
