A wacky Thursday for the Bunworths

Evie, Tyler and Brendan Bunworth give Amelie Otis the thumbs up after her win at Tara Raceway last Thursday.

It’s been a while, what with border restrictions and everything else that has gone on this year, but the Penshurst husband and wife training team of Brendan and Kayla Bunworth were back among the winners with littermates Amelie Otis and Wacky Wednesday at Tara Raceway last Thursday.

For Kayla, Amelie Otis’s win was her first at Tara Raceway since January 26 when she had been successful with Chip It Around. And for Brendan, a double on March 8 with Call Me Silk and Ashby Mayhem had preceded last week’s win with Wacky Wednesday.

The pint-sized Amelie Otis, who jumped from box four in the Gambier Vets Mixed Stake (512 metres), settled in second spot down the back behind Don’t Forget Kev before finishing marginally better for a head win in 30.43 seconds.

Wacky Wednesday cut down from box eight in the following race, the Produce Store Stake (512 m), taking the lead going out of the first turn and then holding out Rough In Vegas and Permit Granted in the run home to win by three-quarters of a length in 30.23 seconds.

By Moreira out of Mrs. Thursday – a 600 metres and 710 metres winner at Albion Park – the October 2018 brother and sister were picked up as giveaways mid-year after finishing unplaced at their first few race starts on Victorian provincial tracks.

However, prior to last Thursday, Amelie Otis had won at Horsham and Wacky Wednesday at Ballarat and Horsham, the pair continuing the Bunworths’ successful strike rate with giveaway greyhounds.

With both greyhounds recently finishing unplaced in the Williams Crane Hire Christmas Cup final at Tara Raceway, it was a case last week of appreciating a decided drop in class – Amelie Otis back to a maiden/one win and Wacky Wednesday looking well placed in a grade six stake.

Wacky Wednesday holds off Rough In Vegas and Permit Granted at Tara Raceway last Thursday.
