A treble with a difference for Berringa trainer

Berringa trainer Michael Niele, better known for his support of Tara Raceway time-graded Thursday meetings, found himself at the Mount Gambier Greyhound Racing Club’s Category 2 fixture yesterday.

This came about after the previous Thursday meeting had been cancelled prior to track renovations.

The monthly Fast Forward 400 metre final for 1-4 wins was then transferred to the Sunday with Niele also switching days after two of his greyhounds, Cherry Eminem and Rusty Wheels, had qualified for the $1065 to the winner final.

But the long-time trainer’s day kicked off with a winner in the second race, the Greg Martlew Autos Maiden Stake (305 metres), when the Shaun and Terry Wilson owned Fernando Lee – a son of Fernando Bale x Acoustic Lee – scored by a narrow margin in 17.75 seconds.

Then, Rusty Wheels, by Shima Shine x Salsa Monelli, came out running from box eight in the Icon Signs Fast Forward final (400 m) and brought up his first win since last October when winning by 3¼ lengths in 23.55 seconds.

Niele wrapped up a good day when Nicked Again, a litter brother to Fernando Lee, made it three wins from as many starts when successful by 1¾ lengths in the Cadillac Racing Stake (305 m) in a time of 17.71 seconds.

The treble was his second at Tara Raceway this year after Sherry Cherry, Cherry Time and Bridgewater Bob had been successful on Thursday, April 17.

But this was a treble with a difference.

Not only did Niele provide the three winners but also the runners-up – What A Wrought, Cherry Eminem and Berringa Paddy.
