A nice touch from a winning trainer

It was back in October last year that Adelaide trainer Tim Aloisi won the Tara Tipsters competition which had supported 22-month-old Mia Powell, diagnosed with Tay-Sachs disease, a rare genetic disorder that affects the nervous system and has no cure.

This was a cause that had really touched Aloisi and he actually pledged $1 for every point he scored in the series. In the end this had equated to something like $450.

But it didn’t end there. His outstanding stayer Zipping Neutron was engaged in the Angle Park Premier’s Cup and Aloisi had pledged an extra $1000 to the Mia Powell fund if his greyhound won the $10,000-to-the-winner first prize.

As it turned out, Zipping Neutron led all the way and it took only 1½ hours for the $1000 to be added to the fund.

Aloisi was back at Tara Raceway last Sunday for the Cadillac Racing Mount Gambier Cup meeting with Zipping Neutron and Kai Bale who contested the Progreyhoundtips.com Feature Distance Stake (732 metres) and the Exchange Printers Cup Consolation (512 m).

It didn’t take long for Zipping Neutron, the short-priced favourite, to find the front before running out a 6¾ length winner over Sher Zany in 42.80 seconds – only a length outside his own track record of 42.73 seconds.

With a first split of 4.53 seconds, Kai Bale set himself a fair task in the consolation. But down the back he had the leader Royal Nangar firmly in his sights before railing through in the home straight and eventually running out a three length winner in 29.50 seconds.

And in what was a nice touch, Aloisi and Zipping Neutron also caught up with young Mia, at the cup with her parents Jake Powell and Sarah Hutchesson-Webb and brothers Hunter and Aston.

He also donated Kai Bale’s Consolation Cup and the dog’s specially printed Mount Gambier Cup reserve race rug to the family.
