It all started on the Monday night at Angle Park where Lewiston trio Clint Trengove and his two sons, Harry and Lucas, shared the spoils in the first event. Winning the 730 metre race was Harry’s Power Move who defeated Lucas’s Oregon Janet and Zenvo Yoyo, trained by Clint.
Then, the following afternoon at Angle Park, the recently turned 18-year-old Lucas trained his first winner when Trivia led all the way from box five for a six length win over He’s No Diva in the 342 metre journey in 19.45 seconds.
Based with his father for several months, his previous 10 years had been spent with his mother at Albury.
“But I would spend all my school holidays helping out down here. And the focus was always on the dogs. In fact, going back to a time when I was only four or five years old I still remember interacting with the greyhounds on our property.
“Then, earlier in the year I obtained my trainer’s licence and purchased Trivia after she had been advertised for sale on Greyhound-Data. Actually, at one stage she had been trained in Broken Hill by my uncle, Clayton Trengove.
“Currently, I have five greyhounds in work with three racing and two at the trialling stage and not looking too bad. As far as Trivia is concerned, she holds pride of place at the moment and I’m taking her along slowly, one race at a time,” Lucas said.
When it came to training, he was quick to heap praise on his father who he said had been a massive help and had taught him everything he knows.
Trivia is a daughter of NSW sire Pindari Express – the Mount Gambier Greyhound Racing Club to stage the Pindari Express at Stud Stake (512 m) for grade five greyhounds on Sunday, February 15. The race will also carry a straw, valued at $2200, to the winner.
And Clint, a one-time regular at Mount Gambier race meetings, for the first time since May last year, sent the boys down with a team of nine to race at last Thursday’s meeting at Tara Raceway.
Come race two, the Gordon Refrigeration Stake (305 m) and Cabao Marble, owned by Lucas and trained by Clint, kicked off what would end up a great day when leading all the way for a 9½ length win over kennel mate Pagan Witch in 17.67 seconds.
For the daughter of Beast Unleashed and Cabao, it was her first win since August last year at Murray Bridge.
In the following race, the Trengove owned and trained Ethanol Unleaded quickly found the front from box six in the Federal Hotel Stake (305 m) before running out a two length winner over a gallant Kahu in 18.19 seconds.
Then, Trengove’s Adhana Layla clinched a spot in this week’s Fast Forward final with an all the way win over Rough Girl Nosey in 23.19 seconds in the Da’Leni Meats Stake (400 m).
The next race was the Quickmix Concrete Group Stake (400 m), the second heat of the Fast Forward series. And it was Caruggi, a son of Feral Franky and Nordegren, who quickly rounded up the field from box eight before running away to a 10½ length win in 23.04 seconds.
The Fast Forward 1-4 Wins final is made up of the fastest six greyhounds from the two heats, irrespective of finishing position. Through to the $1515 final are Caruggi, Adhana Layla, Rough Girl Nosey, Blue Nitrogen, Extravagantly and Magic Poppy.
But Trengove’s day wasn’t over just yet. Lining up from box one in the Sealeys Springworks Stake (305 m) was Bruno Chocolate who led all the way for a half-length win over Fishy Fisher in 18.08 seconds. This was Lucas’s second win for the day as an owner.

And not wanting to be left out, 25-year-old owner-trainer Harry Trengove was successful in the last race, the Williams Crane Hire Stake (305 m), with Dynamic Sunny who was having his first race start in South Australia.
The son of Fernando Bale and Sonata, a 14-race winner, was always on the pace from box one and held on to defeat Shoot The Breeze – a brother to earlier winner Carugga – by a head in 17.68 seconds.
So the Trengove brothers would have travelled back to Lewiston on Thursday afternoon, well-pleased with their day’s work. After all, five winners for their father Clint, two as an owner for Lucas and one as an owner-trainer for Harry wrapped up a big week for the Trengove family.
