305 m racing commences at Tara Raceway

Racing out of Tara Raceway’s new short course boxes commenced last Sunday with two heats of the Razza Racing Feature Maiden.

Annette Kampman was all smiles after Myola Dawn won the first heat of the Razza Racing Feature Maiden (305 m) at Tara Raceway on Sunday.

And it was Myola Dawn, having her 10th race start, who went down as the first winner over 305 metres at Tara Raceway when leading all the way for a 7¼ lengths win in over Millie’s Wonder in 17.66 seconds.

Owned and trained at Purdeet by Annette Kampman, Myola Dawn is by Black Bear Lee, a Group 2 winner of 21 races and more than $180,000 in stakemoney, out of Lieu Knee Annie, herself an interesting story.

By Barcia Bale out of Evie’s Entity, the well-bred Lieu Knee Annie raced on 29 occasions, Kampman taking her for breeding after seven trainers ultimately had a go with her but came up with only one win.

“To be honest, no one wanted to breed with her so I decided to have a go. I chose Black Bear Lee as the sire because I liked his breeding – Brett Lee x Paua Of Love,” she said.

Lieu Knee Annie whelped a litter of nine in February 2019, with Kampman rearing the pups and now training the eight so far to race, five of which have won races.

It had been some time since Kampman had raced at Tara Raceway, her last winner in fact being Tally Ho Jack four years ago.

Aston Olenna defeats Sianna Magic in the second heat of the Razza Racing Feature Maiden.

But she’ll be back again on Sunday for the Tony and Lisa Rasmussen sponsored final with Myola Dawn and also her litter brother Bermuda who ran third in the second heat behind Aston Olenna.

Having his first start, Aston Olenna, trained at Allendale East by David Peckham, overcame a slow start from box five to defeat another first starter in Sianna Magic by 1½ lengths in 17.50 seconds.
