Greyhound racing at Tara Raceway last Sunday was highlighted by One Feather’s dashing run in track record time in the Klaassens Contractors Mixed Stake over 600 metres.
Bred, owned and trained at Bushfield by Gary Lane, the white and black bitch was always travelling like a winner from box one. And after leading all the way she had 10¾ lengths to spare over Compton Shelly in 34.48 seconds.
The previous 600 metre record had been held by Giant’s Flash, who on Sunday, December 4, 2022 had run 34.58 seconds when defeating Limiting by 2½ lengths.
A March 2023 whelping, One Feather is by Fernando Bale out of Dynamite Miss and has now raced on 29 occasions for six wins. Also, litter brother One More Button came close to a 305 metre record (17.20 sec.) when running 17.22 seconds for Lane back in June.
“Dynamite Miss is a daughter of Dee Tee whose litter sister Miss Jacovella in August 2015 ran a record 35.08 seconds at Tara Raceway for me over 600 metres,” he said.
“And Dee Tee and Miss Jacovella were daughters of Mantra Miss (Malfoy x Al Fresco), who back in 2010 was the 512 metres and 732 metre Tara Raceway record holder with times of 29.80 seconds and 44.20 seconds.”

Running quick time in the Federal Hotel Mixed Stake (512 m) was Moonlight Nellie, trained since August at Millicent by Dave Green for Rob and Linda Gore of Warrnambool.
The daughter of Fernando Bale and My Girl Kizzy led all the way from box six for a 7¾ length win over Hello Sweetheart in a personal best time of 29.47 seconds.
Moonlight Nellie has now won five races at Tara Raceway since joining Green’s three-dog racing kennels. And the part-time schoolteacher is now looking at the forthcoming Spring Classic.
Sponsored by Trackside Pet Meats, the 512 metre $10,000 age-restricted classic is for greyhounds whelped on or after July 1, 2024. Heats will be run on November 1 and the final a week later.
“With Moonlight Nellie whelped in September 2024, she’s an ideal age for this sort of race and I couldn’t be happier with her 512 metre form,” Green said.
Langhorne Creek trainer Tony Hinrichsen, who boasts a long association with the Mount Gambier Greyhound Racing Club, was back for last Sunday’s meeting.
And he was quickly among the winners with Summer Fling, a daughter of Shima Shine and Allinga Jess who was bred and is raced and trained by his partner Yvonne King.

Having only her second start, Summer Fling found the front going out of the first turn in the Ferness @ Stud Maiden Stake (512 m) and from then on was never headed.
In fact, on the line she had nine lengths to spare over Wilba Couch in a smart maiden time of 29.83 seconds. And Hinrichsen had been suitably impressed.
“We’ve always thought she had some ability,” he said. “There’s plenty of size about her and there’s certainly nothing wrong with her pedigree given she traces back to Little Looper.”
Meanwhile, on the Thursday night prior, Hinrichsen scored one of his biggest wins after his star stayer Lil Rex won the Premiers Cup (730 m) at Angle Park.
Away only fairly, Lil Rex mustered strongly and opened up a big break before winning the $25,000 race by a length over Mepunga Lara in 42.85 seconds.
By Bernardo out of Lily Pad, he is raced by the Frahn Naughton Syndicate. The black dog has raced on 37 occasions for 20 wins and more than $116,000 in prize money.

Back at Tara Raceway on Sunday and another maiden winner, Tabasco Fiasco, impressed in the Greyhoundtips.com.au Stake (305 m) when winning his first race at start number four.
Bred at Lewiston by Vadim Roz, the son of Fernando Bale and Yarramundi Bee is raced by a syndicate managed by Graham Pretlove and trained at Horsham by Bill Hartigan.
Tabasco Fiasco came out running from box seven and never looked like losing when scoring a 4¼ length win over Sweet Edna in a quick 17.51 seconds.
For Hartigan, a long-time trainer, the win was his first at Tara Raceway since Phantom Patch had won back in March 2023.

And Rapid Shadow, trained at Macarthur by Rob Jehu, strung together her second consecutive win at Tara Raceway with a convincing all the way win in the Collins Court Butcher Stake (305 m).
On the line the daughter of Jungle Deuce and Brockie’s Way had 5¾ lengths to spare over Shanny Rose in a quick 17.50 seconds.
For the long-time trainer, Jehu’s win was his 11th at Tara Raceway this year and includes a couple of doubles along the way.

Ettrick-based Adrien Chevalier and Shavaughn Watkins are also enjoying a good year at Tara Raceway with their first winner this year at the local track being Vista Argon in February.
Since then a further 11 winners have followed with Zipping Keys last Sunday keeping intact her unbeaten record at the track over 400 metres.
Raced by 18-year-old Joel Chevalier, Zipping Keys led all the way from box one in the Trackside Pet Meats Pick 6 Stake for a 1¼ length win over long odds-on favourite Divine Power in 22.95 seconds.
By Don’t Knocka Him out of Zipping Zarbo, the blue brindle bitch’s three wins from 14 starts have all been over 400 metres at Tara Raceway.
