Greyhound Racing South Australia (GRSA) this week announced that Tuesday night race meetings at Angle Park would commence on May 14.
GRSA said the meetings were designed to meet demand by providing more racing opportunities for lower class greyhounds in SA.
The meetings would be time-graded – the same as the Mount Gambier Thursday meetings – but would comprise 10 races of six-dog fields.
“These meetings will operate in tandem with the Angle Park Saturday morning race meetings and target greyhounds of the same class. The race distance on both days will be restricted to 342 metres.
“With Saturday morning and Tuesday night meetings being restricted to 342 metre nominations, opportunities for 530 metre time-graded greyhounds will be programmed for other Angle Park meetings.
“The Tuesday night meetings will be Provincial 2 class and grouped ‘worst to best’ for maidens, 1-4 wins and 5+ wins.”
The fortnightly Saturday morning meetings, as from May 11, would remain time-graded but be restricted to 10 races of six dog fields with reserves over 342 metres only.
Interestingly, reserves at Saturday morning meetings, where possible, would be graded in a “cascading” format.
In other words, if there are four races of one pool of greyhounds then the reserves of the first race would also be included in the second race as starters. The reserves for the second race would also be included in the third race as starters, and so on.
And in a “worst to best” time-grading situation, it may be that a “cascading” format could also make for a better outcome at the Mount Gambier Thursday meetings in relation to its reserve runners.
