Syndicate in the money

Cranbourne-based Scott Brandon and his partner Debbie took advantage of the long week-end to catch up with Allen Unther who was racing in the Klaassens Contractors Stake (400 m) at Tara Raceway last Sunday.

Scott Brandon and Dean Fennell with Allen Unther after his 400 metre win at Tara Raceway last Sunday.

The black dog is raced by the Brandon-managed MTM (Money To Money) Syndicate which also comprises Anthony Calvert, Ryan Hendy, Matt Brooks and Danny Frazer.

In Dean Fennell’s kennels since August, Allen Unther was having his fifth start at Tara Raceway for the Glencoe trainer and really made Brandon’s day when opening his SA winning account with an all the way win in 23.63 seconds.

Brandon, 42, said Allen Unther, who had previously won three races over the Traralgon short course when trained at Rosedale by Peter Borradale, had turned out to be a handy pick-up for the MTM boys.

“We actually came across him advertised for $500 in the Buy, Swap and Sell section of Facebook. And while he hadn’t raced, he was well bred and ready to go so we thought he might be worth having a crack with,” he said.

He certainly is well bred, and with a pedigree that would suggest he should be able to run a bit further, being by Magic Sprite out of the stayer Dyna Willow who won 20 races and $260,000 in prizemoney.

But for the time being, at least, Allen Unther will stick to the short course, lining up from box two in a heat of the Gambier Vets Feature Grade Five at Tara Raceway on Sunday.
