Effective from December 1, South Australian greyhound racing will see a 5 per cent increase in prize money.
Greyhound Racing SA (GRSA) Chair, Grantley Stevens, said the increase in prize money would be felt in all parts of the state and at all levels of racing.
“The increase is a reflection of the industry’s sound fiscal performance over the past 12 months. And it recognises increased costs associated with participating in the sport,” Mr Stevens said.
“We invest in prize money because we know that it is critical to the sustainability of our sport. Also, we see a real impact on our participants’ ability to race greyhounds at all levels, travel to different regional centres and re-invest back into their own facilities.”
Mr Stevens said it was hoped the increase would ease some of the pressures associated with the rising cost of living, while providing further confidence to the industry as to the success and stability of greyhound racing.
Meanwhile, the GRSA board has resolved to increase the total prize pool for the Anniversary Cup at Angle Park to $50,000.
“We want to cement its place on the calendar and recognise its importance to SA greyhound racing with a major increase to the total prize money available for the final,” Mr Stevens said.
