Out of hospital only a matter of days following a knee replacement, Mount Gambier owner Christine Yourgules was determined to be at Tara Raceway last Sunday to watch Bad Seed go around in the Todd’s Photographics Maiden Stake (305 metres).
As it turned out the now close-to 38 kilogram black dog didn’t let her down – or trainer Dita Mitchell – when overcoming a slow start before running away to a 5¾ length win over She’s Got Smiles in a tidy 17.57 seconds.

In Mitchell’s kennels since mid-July, Bad Seed was having his first start for the Tarpeena trainer. And the win was Yourgules’ first since Billie Burner had been successful at Tara Raceway in March last year.
“To be honest, I’d been missing not having a dog of my own racing so I asked Dita if she could have a look around and see if she could find me something,” Yourgules said.
“Pretty soon she came up with Bad Seed, advertised on the internet as a giveaway after having run one third placing at Gawler from five starts.
“I don’t mind telling you, my knee was giving me hell by the end of the day but it was terrific to be back among the winners again with my own greyhound – and with Dita doing the training.”
Whelped in May 2020, Bad Seed boasts an interesting pedigree, being by Barcia Bale out of the US-bred Phantom Mime (KC And All x AF Nala).
And at Angle Park last night Sister Roberta, a litter sister to Bad Seed, took her stake earnings to more than $30,000 when winning the Kings and Queens series over 530 metres.
