The 350 metre final carries a first prize of $10,000 with the first two placegetters then representing SA in the $28,000 to the winner national final at Victoria’s Healesville straight track over 350 metres on Saturday, August 26.

Aston Olenna, a 4½-year-old son of Aston Bolero and Aston Selena, went into the series on the back of an injury-plagued year which included a recent removal of a growth on an ear.

But despite having raced on only five occasions in 2023 the big fawn dog was an impressive winner over Cash On Delivery in the second of two heats when clocking a best of day 19.05 seconds.

He also boasts an impressive record up the straight at Murray Bridge, having won the 2021 cup and running second in 2022. He was scratched from this year’s final due to injury.

Aston Ziebell, qualified for Tuesday’s final after finishing third behind He’s On Fire in the first heat. Runner-up in this year’s Murray Bridge Straight Track Cup, the 3½-year-old son of Aston Kimetto and Aston Dinnigan is a winner of 27 races as is Aston Olenna.
