Now that the dust has settled on this year’s Carlin & Gazzard MG Mount Gambier Cup, Greyhound Racing SA Marketing Manager Matt Watson is seeking feedback from the Mount Gambier Greyhound Racing Club and its participants.
Watson said that local participants who had taken in many of the 42 cups run had told him that this year’s event had probably been one of the best ever from an attendance point of view.
“I thought that with the spread of the crowd trackside, inside the marquee and inside the clubrooms perhaps made the attendance feel a little sparse. But when the cup race was run and everyone moved outside it was certainly a great atmosphere,” he said.
“I’m confident we got the marketing mix pretty well spot on but had we been able to attract an additional 20-40 people on course, particularly those in the younger age bracket, it would have raised the atmosphere even more.
“Also adding to the day was on-track race caller Lachlan Stace. And how lucky is the club to have Kevin “KD” Douglas as its MC?
“From a racing point of view, I thought the green TAB vests worn by handlers in all races with the exception of the cup looked great. And from a presentation point of view, KD’s introduction of the finalists was terrific.
“Also, the handlers presented well in striking MG caps, supplied by Carlin & Gazzard MG sales manager Adrian Jones, along with their white polo shirts embroidered with the name of the cup finalist.”
With a sizeable crowd, two track records on the day, as well as an excellent cup line-up, all that was then required was a local win. And Departure Gate duly obliged for Moorak trainer Jason Newman.
