Going out in a blaze of glory

Monday, October 9, 2017

Cryer’s Plugger, who left today for Buln Buln East to be trained for Tom and Margaret Cryer by Steve White, went out in a blaze of glory at Tara Raceway’s Sunday meeting.

Steward Kel Dalton and owner Margaret Cryer were all smiles after Cryer’s Plugger’s outstanding 512 metre win at Tara Raceway on Sunday.

Coming into the Gordon Refrigeration Stake (512 m) from box one after an outstanding 732 metre win the previous week, Cryer’s Plugger displayed amazing versatility to lead all the way and win in emphatic style by 7¾ lengths.

By Spring Gun x Cryer’s Midget, the brindle dog clocked a brilliant 29.64 seconds – the third fastest time run at Tara Raceway this year, bettered only by former record holder Brazen Bomber (29.55) and current record holder Mojito Mayhem (29.52).

Cryer’s Plugger’s time was three-quarters of a length faster than that of the Peter Crawley trained Zuma Creek who made it consecutive wins at Tara Raceway when defeating Fiorelli Rose and Old Jock in the Stake (512 m) in 29.69 seconds.

It turned out to be a good weekend for the Cryer breed with litter brother Cryer’s Bob taking the time honours at the Friday meeting with an 11 length win in the Produce Store Stake (512 m) in 29.78 seconds.

And wrapping up Sunday’s meeting was older full brother Cryer’s Jack who led all the way from box one in the ClassicBet Stake (512 m) to defeat McIvor Neville by 1¾ lengths in another sub-30 seconds time of 29.99.

This was win number 19 at start 96 for the 4½-year-old who last won at Tara Raceway over 600 metres in May and who is currently booked into the Greyhound Adoption Program for assessment next month.
