It was in the latter part of last year that Lochinvar Pearl, a nicely-bred daughter of Fernando Bale and city-winning stayer Sorry Scott, had found her way over to Tracie Price’s Compton kennels.
That was on the back of a couple of wins at The Meadows over 525 metres when trained at Pearcedale by Brad Fitton.
Now raced by Garry Harding and Ben Price, together with Sarah Price who manages the syndicate, Lochinvar Pearl had still been chasing her first win since relocating to Compton when stepping out in last Sunday’s Cadillac Racing Stake (400 m).
The white and brindle bitch had actually kicked off her SA career at Angle Park back in October with a third placing over 530 metres as a lead-up to the heats of the Gawler Gold Cup (531 metres) 10 days later.
But the cup heat run saw her unplaced behind Agent Nineteen and incur a 10-day injury suspension. Five weeks later Lochinvar Pearl stepped out for the first time at Tara Raceway where she ran a three-quarter length second to Myola Thunder but also managed to pick up 28 days for injury.
The frustrating run for connections then continued into 2025 with another 28 days for injury at Tara Raceway over 400 metres on January 5.
Last Sunday’s meeting resulted in the final three races being abandoned – the final two heat-related. Now, given Lochinvar Pearl’s luckless SA record, surely she would have been involved in one of those three final races.
But no, she finally got lucky and after a great battle with Unique Destiny in race five, Lochinvar Pearl scored a head win in 23.05 seconds.
“Look, she can run a bit,” Price said. “But the secret is to be able to hold her together. She’s won over 520 metres at Wentworth Park and 622 metres at Richmond and I certainly haven’t written off running her in the heats of next month’s Mount Gambier Cup.”

Meanwhile, 26-race winner Giant’s Flash, formerly trained by Price, has sired his first litter – out of Spot On Cinta, a daughter of Black Magic Opal and Cintiarna, winner of 23 races and $285,000 in prize money.
Spot On Cinta, a winner of five races on Victorian tracks, has two previous litters racing by Orson Allen and Beast Unleashed.
Meanwhile, the 2025 Mount Gambier Greyhound Racing Club committee was announced this week – Noel Perry (President), Dave Green (Vice-President), Ruth Lewis (Secretary), Garry Harding, Kevin Jones, David Lewis, Ben Price, Tracie Price, Michael Robinson and Christine Yourgules.
And it’s welcome back to Tracie Price – on the MGGRC committee for the first time since 2012.
