Fastest qualifiers set to fight out feature final

Wednesday, October 11, 2017

Local greyhounds Swift Limes and Arolok Jax, who go into Sunday’s Gambier Vets Feature Grade Five final (400 metres) as the fastest qualifiers, look set to stage a repeat of last week’s first heat.

Steve Patzel with Swift Limes, one of the top fancies for Sunday’s Gambier Vets final.

On that occasion the Tracie Price trained Swift Limes led all the way from box one to defeat Arolok Jax by 2½ lengths with the pair running 23.07 seconds and 23.26 seconds respectively.

The ultra-consistent Swift Limes, raced by the Bouchier brothers, has now won five races and run 10 minor placings from 22 starts.

He’ll jump from box one again in Sunday’s final while Arolok Jax, trained by Connie Miller, has drawn box two after jumping from box seven in last week’s heat.

The second placing was Arolok Jax’s best effort since winning at Tara Raceway over 400 metres on August 20 in 23.32 seconds.

And success in the $1470-to-the-winner final would be a real pick-me-up for Miller who missed last week’s run when at home convalescing after a recent hip operation.

Problem Solved quickly found the front in the second heat before running out a comfortable winner for local trainer Ralph Patzel in 23.61 seconds.

Problem Solved continued her good form with a Gambier Vets heat win last Sunday.

Patzel has really turned the fortunes around of Problem Solved who has now won three of her only four starts, although Sunday’s final will be her toughest test to date as she has drawn awkwardly in box six.

Blazin’ Vicky led all the way in last week’s The Border Watch Mixed Stake (600 m) for Cap Abbott and the Edenhope trainer will be hoping for another middle-distance win on Sunday with litter brother Mo Town Roy in the Rock’s Retreat Mixed Stake.

Cap Abbott is off to Angle Park on Friday with Blazin’ Vicky, a 600 metre winner at Tara Raceway last Sunday.

By Razldazl Jayfkay x New Year’s Punch, the littermates have collectively won 25 races with Mo Town Roy giving plenty of cheek when a three length fourth in a feature 650 metre at Warrnambool last week.

Abbott will be at Angle Park on Friday night for the Adelaide Cup meeting with Blazin’ Vicky who has drawn box one in a grade five event over 515 metres and Emily As – a fast-finishing second behind Glenville Phil last Sunday – who has drawn box two in the final race.
