Warrnambool chaser Destini Montana upstaged the Open class greyhounds at Tara Raceway’s Christmas meeting on December 17 when clocking a best of day 30.05 seconds in the Gordon Refrigeration Stake (512 m) – second placegetter Xtreme Caution since franking the form.
The son of Symmetry x Destini Gold will be back at Tara Raceway on Sunday, stepping up in distance in the Greyhound-Data.com Mixed Stake over 600 metres.
And with Symmetry winning many races over the longer journey for stakemoney of more than $250,000, and Destini Gold a middle-distance winner, there shouldn’t be too many problems about the 35 kilogram dog getting the trip.
Raced by the Three Gen Syndicate which comprises Lorraine Finn, her daughter Marita Byron and grandson Anthony Laing-Smith, Destini Montana is trained by Lorraine’s husband Kevin, one of greyhound racing’s real gentlemen.
The syndicate, looking for another greyhound to race some six months ago, made contact with Norm and Janis Rinaldi of Lethbridge to see if they had any performed dogs for sale.
“They gave us the choice of three, all reasonably priced, and we finally settled on Destini Montana who has given us plenty of fun with a couple of wins and numerous placings,” Kevin Finn said.
