The Tara Tipsters were back in action at Sunday’s Tara Raceway 10-race program, this time getting behind the local ADRA Op Shop, situated at 71 Suttontown Road, Mount Gambier.
And it was Andrew Earl who made a great start to the year with 30 points – five winners, two seconds, two thirds and Blue Sky Boy giving him double points in race 10.
The Tara Tipsters will compete for bragging rights at the Thursday and Sunday greyhound meetings until the end of February. ADRA Op Shop manager, Marilyn Merritt – and volunteers – will then attend a race meeting where they will be presented with a tipsters’ cheque.
The ADRA Op Shop relies on donated goods and is staffed by volunteers. Chief volunteer, Sandra Pech, said the Op Shop was an important community service that benefited a wide range of individuals.
“We supply affordable clothing and other goods to those in need,” she said. “And we provide the pleasure of giving to those donating goods, give volunteers a sense of purpose and acknowledgement in making a difference – and link a community of people.
“Funds raised from the ADRA Op Shop are used to fund a range of local ADRA community projects such as at-risk youth intervention, drug and alcohol counselling as well as literacy and job skill training. We even have free cooking lessons.”
